The front of the building features a central portico with six Corinthian columns supporting a pediment. There are three entrances on the first floor, each flanked by pairs of columns. The second floor features a central balcony with a wrought iron railing. The building is topped by a mansard roof with dormer windows.

The Monterey Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a California Historical Landmark. The courthouse is open to the public Monday-Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm. Tours are available upon request.
