What is a Bail Bond?

Bail bonds are a way for someone who has been arrested to be released from jail while they wait for their court case to be heard. When someone is arrested, they may be held in jail until their trial. However, if they are able to post bail, they can pay a fee to the court in exchange for being released from jail while they wait for their trial.

The person who posts bail is called the “surety,” and they are responsible for ensuring that the person who has been arrested (the “defendant”) attends all of their court hearings. The surety can be a friend or relative of the defendant, or it can be a professional bail bond company.

If the defendant fails to show up for a court hearing, the court may revoke their bail and issue a warrant for their arrest. The surety may also be required to pay the full amount of the bail to the court if the defendant does not show up.

In summary, bail bonds allow defendants to be released from jail while they wait for their court case to be heard, in exchange for a fee and a promise to attend all court hearings.
