Lock Boxes for Guns in SF
- in Laws
As reported at Breitbart.com, San Francisco officials are considering a law that would require citizens and police officers to have lockboxes in their cars if they are carrying a weapon.
Anyone carrying a gun would be required to store them in such a box while traveling in a vehicle. The penalty for failing to have such a lock box would be up to six months in jail and a $10,000 fine. It is thought that individuals charged with this crime would be eligible for bail.
Crimes May Be Committed With Stolen Gun
The inspiration for this legislation was the death of a women who was killed by a gun stolen from a federal agent’s vehicle. However, getting a gun out of a lockbox may be inconvenient for those who need their gun for self-defense. The bill was headed to the committee in December 2015, but it is not clear if the bill had passed or what its current status was.
What Happens if You Are Charged With Breaking Such a Law?

However, the amount of time that you spend in jail depends on whether or not you can make bail. If it does pass, the law would be considered a misdemeanor, which means that you would be kept in a county or local jail until your case is heard or you are released on bail. As misdemeanors are considered less serious than felonies, your bail amount will be lower assuming that this was the first offense or you don’t have other charges on your record.
