The word “jail” is probably the second most offensive four-letter word to most of us. It’s a place we don’t want to experience first- hand. Unfortunately, rightfully or wrongfully, many people slip up and find themselves housed on the wrong side of the bars.If you are arrested in San Jose, California, you’ll want the help from a good San Jose bail bonds company. Here is an overview of what you can expect to encounter if arrested in San Jose.
Jail Locations
The main Santa Clara Main Jail Complex for San Jose is located at 150 W. Hedding St, San Jose. It consists of two facilities: the Main Jail South and the Main Jail North.
The Elmwood Correctional Facility is located at 701 S. Abel Street in Milpitas, CA. It contains the Elmwood Men’s Correctional Facility and the Correctional Center for Women (“CCW”).
San Jose Jail Assignments
Males who are arrested in San Jose are taken to the Main Jail. Depending on the charges, they are either jailed there or transferred to the Elmwood Facility depending on the severity of the charges, availability of bed space and medical needs.
Female who are arrested are taken to the Correctional Center for Women at the Elmwood Correctional Facility.
Booking Process
Arrestees are brought to the jail facilities where they are fingerprinted, photographed, relieved of their personal belongings, screened for past criminal convictions and checked into the jail system with.
They are housed here temporarily until of one these four options is met:
1. They are able to post bail and are released.
2. They are released on their own recognizance
3. They appear for their arraignment.
4. They appear for trial.
Locating Arrestees
Once a person has been booked into the jail, they can seemingly be swallowed up in the system and disappear. After a family member of friend had received a phone call from the incarcerated individual, there is a system for keeping track of where that individual is.
To get information about an inmate, you can call the inmate information line at (408) 299-2305 seven (7) days a week between 5:00am and 1:00am. You must have the arrestee’s correct spelling of their full name to obtain information.
You can also get this information online using the Santa Clara Department of Corrections website.
Be aware in most cases inmate communication will not be possible until 4-6 hours after the booking time.
Visiting Hours and Regulations
Visits are allowed in the San Jose jail during the facility’s posted visiting hours and policies. Up to two (2) adults may visit, but you will have to split the visit into one half-hour each.
Convicted felons who have served time in a state facility are not allowed to visit without permission from the facility Commander and their parole officer.
All visitors are required to register when they make their appointment for visitation and must comply with these rules:
1. All visitors subject to search prior to entry.
2. Each visitor must show a government issued photo I.D. card. The approved cards are a California driver’s license, a California identification card, U.S. Passport, alien registration card or U.S. military card.
3. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian and have a notarized copy of their birth certificate.
4. Visiting hours in the Main Jail North from 7:00am to 3:15pm, Thursday through Tuesday. The Main Jail South from 7:00am to 5:00 pm on the same days
