Fairfield Court

Located at 600 Union Avenue between Texas and Delaware streets in Fairfield, the Solano County Hall of Justice (Fairfield Court) was originally constructed in 1915 as Armijo Union High School for $85,000. Built-in a neoclassical style, the granite, and concrete high school would become the Hall of Justice in 1970 after the high school had moved years before to a new campus on Washington Street. Back then, it would probably never have been guessed that Fairfield bail bonds companies would work so closely with the court. According to a survey Fairfield has a 3.1% smaller crime rate than the average US citizen.

History of the Solano County Hall of Justice

Solano County only paid $11,700 for the old school, because the original deed stated that only a public building could be on that particular property as long as Fairfield was the county seat. Dilapidated after years of neglect, the county spent $1.4 million renovating the building. The courthouse now handles general jurisdiction on civil, family law, and traffic matters such as divorces, child custody cases, juvenile delinquency, and small claims lawsuits.

Visitors are reminded that all visitors to the Solano County Superior Court are required to pass through a security system (metal detectors) when entering the court buildings. Please leave all weapons, knives, bladed tools or chemicals at home; security has no way to store them.

Services available at the Court

Traffic fines can be paid online or at the courthouse; parking citations must be paid in the issuing city. To plead not guilty, appear in court and request a trial date.

The Family Law office is located on the second floor. Between 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. documents for family law cases may be placed in a dropbox under the stairs on the second floor. The papers will be stamped with the same date they were collected from the box. For legal advice, the Solano Legal Access Center (SLAC) is also located on the second floor. It is open weekdays except for Wednesday from 8:15 to 2:00 p.m. Probate and conservator/guardianship cases are filed at the Family Law office as well.

Small claims forms can also be filed at the appropriate office on the second floor from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Juvenile Court offices are also located on the second floor; they handle all matters relating to juvenile delinquency cases except for traffic violations, which are handled by the Solano County Probation Department.

The Hall of Justice does not handle criminal matters; the Law and Justice Building adjoining it handle criminal procedures. The office is Suite 151.

Places to park and accessibility

Limited time parking is available directly in front of the Hall of Justice. For those with disabilities, parking is located at the intersection of Texas and Washington Streets; a parking garage is also located at the new Solano County Government Center standing at Texas and Jefferson streets.

The Solano County Court reminds patrons that parking lots in the Downtown Business areas are privately owned and are for businesses and their customers. Please respect the downtown businesses and avoid parking in privately owned lots.

The Hall of Justice is wheelchair-accessible, with ramps on both sides of the main entrance. The building is also equipped with elevators and wheelchair-accessible restrooms. Service animals are allowed in court facilities and may go to all areas of the court where customers are normally allowed. The Americans with Disabilities Act defines a service animal as any guide dog, signal dog, or another animal individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability. Please remember that animals must be leashed within the building.
