Wakefield Taylor Courthouse

Wakefield Taylor Courthouse located on 725 Court Street was built in 1933 and is listed as a National Historic Site. The Court Annex is situated between the detention center and the Bray Courthouse that houses three more courtrooms.

Peter L. Spinetta Family Law Center

The Peter L. Spinetta Family Law Center at 751 Pine Street is a busy place offering limited appointment times. They are a service based facility that prides itself on being user friendly. The Triage desk is located near the entrance, and the staff is ready to direct people to the right location. This particular location is where people file for Domestic Violence Restraining Orders or emergency orders. There is a separate Family Law Filing Counter where individuals take fillings for cases and pay fees. The Alternative Dispute Resolutions Department is located on the bottom floor towards the back.

Juvenile Hall

The Juvenile Hall for the county is on 202 Glacier Drive. It houses a newly constructed juvenile courtroom specifically designed for young people under 18 years of age. Monitoring of weekend Work Detail and Home Supervision are done from this location.

Court Records

Court records can be accessed on the bottom floor of the County Health Department at 1111 Ward behind the Wakefield Taylor Courthouse. They house records pertaining to family law, probate, civil, and adoption cases.

District Attorney and Public Defender

The office of the District Attorney is located at 900 West Street and the Office of the Public Defender is at 800 Ferry Street. The job of the District Attorney is, “To seek justice and enhance public safety for all our residents by aggressively, fairly, ethically and efficiently prosecuting those who violate the law.” The Public Defender represents the accused that are financially unable to hire an attorney.
