The Berkeley Courthouse is a historic building located at 2120 Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Berkeley, California. The courthouse was built in 1854 and is one of the oldest buildings in the city. It served as the county courthouse until 1869, when the county seat was moved to San Francisco. The building then became a city hall, and was later used as a library. The courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
The Berkeley Courthouse is a two-story brick building with a mansard roof. It has a central tower and round arched windows. The building was designed by architects A. Page Brown and John Galen Howard, and is an excellent example of French Second Empire architecture.
The courthouse is open to the public and tours are available. The building is also available for rental for events such as weddings and parties.
