People frequently request information about services at the San Rafael Jail. Frequent inquiries relate to determining booking and bail information, communicating with an inmate, and expressing welfare concerns to the jail. If you or a loved one have been booked, you’ll need the help of a good San Rafael bail bonds company.
Booking And Bail Information
Most inmates booked into the county jail obtain the opportunity for release back into the local community upon the payment of bail, a sum of money deposited temporarily with the court system to assure that an arrested individual will appear at trial. A judge determines the specific amount of bail. Call Marin Superior Court at (415)473-6225 for information about bail, scheduled court dates and release dates.
Booking Information

- 1. Call (415)499-7316 and inquire about an individual by name, or
- 2. Go online and click under the Jail Booking Log tab.
Bail
The San Rafael Jail cannot accept personal checks. You can pay an inmate’s bail in the form of:
- U.S. Currency;
- Money Order;
- Surety Bond (issued by a California bail bond company)
- GovPay Cash Advance Bail
Communicating With an Inmate
To send money to inmates for snacks and other commissary items, go online to: http://www.marinpackages.com/ and following directions. Arrange a pre-paid phone account for an inmate by calling 1-866-230-7761 or visiting Global Tel Link at www.GTL.net.
Inmates in most situations can make outgoing calls, but cannot accept incoming calls. Communicate with an inmate directly by attending an in-person visit, or remotely using email or letters.
In-Person Communication
Arrangements for visits must occur at least 24-hours in advance. Inmates can schedule a single 30-minute visiting session per day. To visit an inmate, follow these steps:
- Comply with the dress code and arrive sober;
- Show up 15 minutes before scheduled visits;
- Visitors under 18 must remain with a legal guardian or parent at all times;
- Bring a valid photo identification for everyone, and a school ID for school-aged children;
- Leave food or beverages outside; only one key, eyeglasses and emergency medications allowed inside.
(Special rules apply for inmates in Pod A and in lockdown situations. In these cases, inmates cannot receive visitors before 5:45 p.m. on weekdays). Call prisoner services at (415) 473-7268 for assistance visiting an inmate with mental health issues.
Remote Communication
The jail screens all incoming letters and emails. Send emails by visiting www.JPAY.com and mail via this address:
