The Fresno County Main Jail was founded in 1989. It houses a portion of the total Fresno jail population, which is a constantly changing number that typically amounts to approximately 2,400 inmates. The main jail’s visitation hours vary depending on inmate classifications and the needs of the facility. The visitor will need to inquire about any particular inmate’s visiting hours. Each inmate may only have two 30-minute visits per week, and these can only occur with visitors who are on the inmate’s approved list. All visitors must be at least 18 years old. The jail visitation dress code must be followed.

Phone Information

Callers can purchase a prepaid phone plan to stay in constant communication with their incarcerated loved ones. This plan is provided by Legacy Inmate Communications. A minimum payment of $15 is required for the phone plan, and it is rechargeable. Callers are asked to refrain from placing inmates on hold, attempting a three-way call or using call waiting. All of these actions are detected by the jail phone system and may result in the immediate termination of a call.

Mail Delivery

Mail can be sent to an inmate if it is properly formatted. All mail must contain the inmate’s booking number and his or her jail identification number. The following materials are not permitted in the mail: envelopes, stickers, stamps, stationery supplies, pornographic materials, newspapers, books and magazines. Acceptable mail items and materials include postcards, newspaper clippings in reasonable amounts and greeting cards. Every piece of mail is opened and searched for possible contraband.

Anyone with questions about an inmate can contact the jail at 1-888-373-7011 for certain information. Information provided at this number includes whether or not someone is in custody, charges, bail amounts and dates of release. No information will be provided regarding inmate transport times to or from a different facility.
