What Really Happens After You’re Arrested?
By Jose Espinoza – Licensed Bail Agent (CA License #1841969)
Getting arrested in California is never part of anyone’s plan—but if it happens, knowing what really goes on behind the scenes can make a huge difference.
Let’s walk you through what actually happens from the moment you’re in cuffs to the second you’re released.
Step 1: You’re Taken to Jail
Once you’re arrested, law enforcement will take you to the local jail for booking. This can happen at any of the major jails across California, like those in Kern, Los Angeles, Riverside, Alameda, Sacramento, San Mateo, or Santa Clara counties.
Step 2: The Booking Process
This is when things start moving slower. You’ll be:
-
Searched
-
Photographed
-
Fingerprinted
-
Placed into the system
At this point, your bail amount might already be set based on the bail schedule in that county. But depending on the charges, some people have to wait to see a judge before they’re eligible for release.
Step 3: Bail Is Set – Now What?
If bail has been set, this is where we come in.
Calling Espinoza Bail Bonds means you’re calling someone who:
-
Knows how to move quickly
-
Has deep experience in every major California county
-
Understands the system better than most attorneys
We’ll look up your charges, verify your bail, and start working with whoever’s helping you on the outside.
Step 4: Paperwork and Payment
Once a co-signer is secured, we’ll get the paperwork going and arrange payment. Whether it’s:
-
Full payment
-
A custom plan
-
Collateral (in some cases)
We’ll walk your people through the process with zero judgment and full transparency.
Step 5: Release
After the bond is posted, we contact the jail and wait. Some jails release people in an hour. Others can take up to 12+. It depends on the location, staff, and time of day. But the paperwork we file is immediate. That’s on us—we don’t wait around.
